Chapter 1: Introduction

During this tutorial we are going to create a pressure plate. Of course there are different techniques to design and detail something like this. The purpose of this tutorial is to learn one of the many ways to construct this pressure plate.

Settings

During this tutorial I will be using the HiCAD 2010 version. My view projection is the American Projection. To make it easier for you to follow this tutorial it's best to change your setting also to the American Projection (in case it's set to European Projection). You can change this setting as follows:

The mouse buttons

HiCAD uses the three buttons on your mouse. During this tutorial I will be using the following abbreviations:

Starting a new construction

HiCAD offers the possibility to work with the integrated PDM system HELiOS. In this tutorial we are not using this.

To start a new construction we use the Startcenter. This will pop up automatically when you start HiCAD or when you click on New Construction. Because the lever is only a single part you have to select the option Create new scene (3D part and 2D). We are going to create this part by extruding a sketch. So at Start Mode select 3D Sketch. As View Projection select Top view.

Now press OK to create a new construction.

TIP: By pressing on the [F3] button you can toggle a coordinate axis on/off in the left-bottom corner of your screen.
